< < Back to bobcats-take-down-panthers-to-get-back-on-trackAfter a tough couple of losses to Arizona State last weekend, the Ohio Bobcats hockey team came out strong Friday night to beat the Pittsburgh Panthers, 4-1.
Matt Rudin scored the first goal of the game and his 14th of the season in the first five minutes of play. Line mates Liam Geither and Matthew Hartman were credited with the assist. The Bobcats dominated the ice on the Penguin’s end, but they struggled to put the puck in the back of the net.
It wasn’t until a big hit by Vincent Nicolella with eight minutes left in the period that really seemed to fire Ohio up again. Matthew Hartman pocketed their second goal of the game after assists from Liam Geither and Matt Rudin.
Ohio had to fight hard after starting the third period off shorthanded with a penalty 20 seconds in. Pittsburgh came out hungry for a goal but it wasn’t long before Ohio brought the game down to their end again. The ‘Cats finally scored their third goal of the game with seven minutes left in the period. Derek Rahme scored his eighth goal of the season on a slap shot.
Patrick Spellacy added a fourth goal later with assists from Michael Harris and Joey Breslin during a five-on-three powerplay. Spellacy’s ninth goal of the season came with four minutes left to play in the second quarter.
The third period didn’t see any goals from Ohio, but the Panthers did manage to slide one in with three minutes left in the game. There were also a fair amount of penalties as well. In the end though the lone Pittsburgh goal was not enough. Ohio finished the game off with a 4-1 win while outshooting Pittsburgh 25 to 12.
Ohio will look to put together back-to-back wins tomorrow night when they will take on the Panthers once again. Puck drop is at 7:30 pm.
