Route 35 in Mason County Reopened Following Possibly Explosive Situation
< < Back to route-35-mason-county-reopened-following-possibly-explosive-situation-0All lanes of U.S. 35 were reopened Tuesday morning after a tanker leaked a potentially explosive chemical onto the roadway near the junction of Three Mile Road in Mason County, West Virginia 911 dispatchers say.
The tanker that leaked was carrying hexamine, which is used to make explosives in mines.
The chemical was in a watered-down state, though, and wasn't considered to be as volatile.
The tanker hit something on the roadway, which ruptured part of the tank.
The incident was reported about 5:15 p.m. Monday.
A second tanker truck was at the scene to transfer the chemicals from the ruptured tanker.
All lanes reopened late Monday night.
No one was hurt in the incident.
