Tomcats Roll with Sixth-Straight Win

The Trimble Tomcats kept rolling with their sixth-straight victory, taking down Ironton St. Joe 59-40 in the district quarterfinals.
Even though a loss could have ended the Tomcats season, coach Howie Caldwell elected to start James Shonborn over Justice Jenkins so the senior could start a game this season.
Despite not starting, Jenkins still had a huge impact on the game. He scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists. His teammate, Bryce Guthrie, also had a successful night, putting up another double-double with 18 points and 10 boards.
Randy Hixon also chipped in for the Tomcats adding 14 points. Half of those points came from the free throw line as he knocked down seven free throws.
The Tomcats were able to dominate the entire time, ending the first quarter with a 17-2 lead.
The Tomcats’ defense also played a huge role in the win. The relentless pressure cause the Flyers to commit more than 25 turnovers during the game.
At one point, Ironton St. Joe was able to make it a 10-point game in the second quarter, but it didn’t get any closer than that in this one.
The Tomcats will move on to play in the Division IV district semifinals on Monday, Feb. 29 against the winner of Peebles vs. Portsmouth Clay. The game will played at 6:15 p.m. in the Convocation Center at Ohio University.
