GIRLS

The Vinton County girls only had one game this week after the Sheridan Holiday Hoops tournament.

On Monday, Dec. 30, the Vinton County Lady Vikings hosted the Trimble Lady Tomcats.

It was a close-scoring game after the first quarter, with the Vikings only up by 3 with a score of 10-7. By halftime, the Lady Vikings extended their lead to 30-13 with their tremendous offense.

The Lady Vikings outscored the Lady Tomcats throughout the game, especially in the third quarter as they went into the fourth quarter with a 27-point lead at 50-23.

The Lady Vikings would end up victorious at home 65-28, rising to 7-4 this season and 3-1 in the TVC-Ohio.

Vinton County was led to victory with three scorers in double digits. Michaela Puckett had 15 points, followed by Jalen Hale with 12 and Jamee Park with 11.

The Lady Vikings will travel out to Marietta on Monday, Jan. 6.

BOYS

Friday, Jan. 3, the Vinton County boys’ game against the Meigs Marauders was postponed to a later date to be determined.

On Saturday, Jan. 4, the Vikings faced off against the Piketon Redstreaks on the campus of Ohio University-Chillicothe.

The Vikings fell to the Redstreaks in a close game, by a final score of 47-56.

Piketon came out and dominated the first quarter with a 22-9 lead in scoring. The second quarter closed the gap between the two teams by Vinton County switching to a full-court press. Drawing too many fouls, however, Piketon took full advantage and it just wasn’t enough for the Vikings to come back in the second half.

Vinton County now falls to 3-4 this season and 1-1 in the TVC-Ohio.

The Vikings will host the Logan Chieftains on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
