DeWine says four Ohioans are dying each day of prescription drug overdoses, a rate exceeding the number of people killed in car crashes.
DeWine and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced a public awareness campaign Monday ahead of a planned drug disposal program Oct. 29.
The national prescription drug "Take-Back" campaign encourages people to dispose of unwanted, unused and expired pills at designated locations.
The program last year offered more than 4,000 sites around the country.
Ohio has been battling soaring rates of prescription painkiller addictions and overdoses for several years.
