Pioneers Look To Bounce Back Against Baldwin Wallace
< < Back to pioneers-look-bounce-back-against-baldwin-wallaceAfter suffering two losses in their past three games, the previously ranked No. 19 Marietta College Pioneers men’s basketball team will look to rebound against the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets.
Both teams are in different situations as they enter Ban Johnson Arena on Saturday, Jan. 11. The Pioneers (9-3, 4-1 OAC) have just lost senior point guard Tyler Hammond for the second time this season after he was arrested for an OVI earlier this week. They are also are coming off a tough 78-73 loss to Ohio Northern on Wednesday night.
The Yellow Jackets (7-5, 3-2 OAC) are coming off a massive 90-67 win over Otterbein after losing a heartbreaker in the Trinity Christmas Classic 77-74 in overtime and are looking to gain momentum in the new year.
The Pioneers will look to rally around junior point guard Andy Dollman, who has taken over Hammond’s starting position while the troubled guard was out.
Dollman proved to be more than a sufficient replacement, averaging 12.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in 22.9 minutes a game.
He also boats an impressive 57.6 percent 3-point percentage and a 56.0 percent field goal percentage while another Pioneer has also surprised the Marietta faithful this season.
Sophomore wing player RaNeal Ewing has been a pleasant surprise this season, leading the team with 12.5 points per game and shooting 87.5 percent from the free throw line.
Marietta will need both these players to defeat the tough Baldwin Wallace team and it will need this win to remain relevant in the Division III top 25 rankings.
Tipoff is at 3 p.m.
