Davis Carries N-Y Past Alexander
< < Back to davis-carries-n-y-past-alexanderAfter a defensive battle in the first half, Nelsonville-York and Alexander found themselves in a close battle in the second half. After a run by the Lady Spartans, Madison Davis took over for the N-Y.
Davis finished with 20 points, 20 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals and Angela Meade added 9 points and 2 steals to lead the Lady Buckeyes to a 47-35 victory over the Alexander Lady Spartans on Monday night.
After Alexander’s 7-0 run in the second half, N-Y ran away with the game, starting with a 9-0 run, led by none other than Madison Davis. She was a monster on the boards and would not be denied of leading her team to victory.
“Well, I knew what I had to do because this was going to be such a close game, so I knew coming in that I needed to rebound well and score,” said Davis.
She did just that.
In the second half, Nelsonville-York outscored Alexander 22-13, including a 22-6 run after Alexander’s short outburst. Davis scored 13 of N-Y’s 22 second-half points, including 10 in a row.
When asked on how big of an impact Davis played in the win, N-Y head coach Amanda Dalton said, “Madison is a type of player that she’s going to go after every board, and we knew that if she was open we were going to give it to her.”
Allyson Malone put up 15 points and Leah Richardson added 9 points and 3 steals for the Lady Spartans, who are now riding a two-game losing streak.
This is also the fifth consecutive time the Lady Spartans have lost to N-Y in regular season play, spanning back to the 2011-12 season.
The Lady Spartans sparked a 7-0 run to take the lead 29-25 early on in the third and after a 9-1 run by Nelsonville-York, Malone hit a big three for Alexander to keep the game within reach making it 36-33 Nelsonville.
However, that was all Alexander could muster up, as Madison Davis was too much for the Lady Spartans to handle.
With just under a minute left, Kaitlyn Hurd would go 4-4 from the charity stripe to put the game away for good.
Nelsonville-York now sits at 4-2 in the TVC-Ohio, with a 10-3 record overall.
Alexander is 2-4 in TVC-Ohio play, and 8-5 overall.
