‘Cats Split Doubleheader With Marshall
< < Back to cats-split-doubleheader-with-marshallOhio softball split even in its double header against Marshall, losing big in the first and winning big in the second game. The Thundering Herd took the first victory 8-0 but, Ohio then answered with a 7-0 win to conclude the weeknight series.
The Bobcats were shut down by Jordan Dixon, earning the Marshall pitcher a no-hitter in the first matchup. Ohio was able to make contact, but not a single ball got through the Thundering Herd’s defense. Each at-bat for Ohio was brief and fruitless. The only two runners to reach base were Sloan Walker and Casie Hutchinson. They each reached base on an error and a walk, respectively.
Both teams saw their fair share of strikeouts in the first game. Danielle Steine struck out four of Marshall’s players and Jordan Dixon for the Herd was able to strike out two more.
the ‘Cats were simply unable to get on base in the first game. However, the team turned around a complete 180 degrees for game number two as they took down Marshall by a similar run margin.
Deanna Cole ended Ohio’s dry streak by stealing home safely in the first. Though she managed to cross the plate early on, the ‘Cats did not put up another run until the fifth inning. Ohio put up a total of six runs between the fifth and seventh innings.
Savannah Jo Dorsey proved to be a game changer for Ohio allowing zero earned runs in the second game. Dorsey totaled seven strikeouts in the second game and only allowed five managable hits.
The evening may have started out in ill-favor for Ohio, but the team was able to smooth out the kinks with a rewarding second game performance. Ohio now sits at 17-8 on the year.
The Bobcats begin Mid American Conference play when take on Western Michigan at 3:00pm in Athens on Friday, March 25.
