A Look at Ohio House Proposal to Legalize Medical Marijuana

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A special committee is beginning work on legislation legalizing medical marijuana in Ohio.
The House Select Committee on Marijuana was convening for the first time Tuesday. It has scheduled meetings every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until its work is done.
Ohio House leaders have pledged to send the recently introduced legalization bill to the state Senate by the end of April.
The proposed legislation would allow certified doctors to prescribe edibles, patches, plant material and oils. Home growing would be prohibited. The bill sets up a nine-member Medical Marijuana Control Commission that would draft rules on cultivating, distributing, dispensing and taxing cannabis.
Local communities could opt out of hosting dispensaries under the plan.
The measure comes as at least two competing medical marijuana proposals make their way to November’s ballot.
