Federal Funding in Jeopardy for NW Ohio Flood Control Plan
< < Back to federal-funding-in-jeopardy-for-nw-ohio-flood-control-planFINDLAY, Ohio (AP) – Federal funding is in jeopardy for a flood control plan in northwest Ohio.
The Blade reports a review by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in recent months has found the project’s cost-benefit ratio to be less than previously projected. Officials say that would make it ineligible for a 65 percent match in federal funds.
The Army Corps is using a new hydraulics model that could increase the cost-benefit ratio and make it eligible for the funds.
Officials have been studying ways to mitigate flood damage in the Findlay area. The project could cost about $80 million and aims to reduce flooding along the Blanchard River.
Controlling flooding along the river is a priority in Findlay, where five major floods have caused millions of dollars in damage since 2007.
