Dorsey’s Arm, Claytor’s Bat Lead Ohio Over S. Carolina
< < Back to dorseys-arm-claytors-bat-lead-ohio-over-s-carolinaSavannah Jo Dorsey and Madison Claytor led the Ohio softball team to their second victory of the day and third of the Carolina Classic Saturday afternoon, this time a 5-2 victory over the host South Carolina Gamecocks.
Dorsey pitched seven strong innings of softball, allowing only two runs on three hits, with neither run being earned. The sophomore struck out 10 Gamecocks while only walking two batters.
Dorsey’s unearned runs came in the third and sixth innings, and when looked upon without close examination, are not indicative of the dominance she displayed on Saturday afternoon.
She took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but it was broken up by way of an Alaynie Page double. But her fellow Bobcats helped her ease into a groove by putting up an early lead for her.
The Bobcats got on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI double by Alexandria Basquez and a Claytor triple that scored Basquez.
Claytor, a freshman catcher, made up for a throwing error in the third that plated the first South Carolina run by belting a three-run moon shot to extend Ohio’s lead to 5-1. She finished with four RBIs on the day.
After picking up a save in the first game of the day, Dorsey picked up her second victory of the season in the latter half of the doubleheader.
Ohio will go for a weekend sweep in the Carolina Classic as they take on Iowa at 10 a.m. Sunday.
