Gallia Academy Tops Warren with Ground Game
< < Back to ?p=1639Gallia Academy, 6-3 (3-1), hosted Warren, 4-5 (2-3), in SEOAL play at Memorial Field. Despite wet and muddy field conditions, Gallia Academy used a big rushing game, during the blue devil’s senior night, to defeat Warren 27-13.
After the opening kickoff, Gallia Academy only attempted three plays before quarterback Wade Jarrel threw an interception to Warren linebacker Chas Miller to give the Warriors the opportunity to strike first on the scoreboard.
However, after a short drive of their own, Warren quarterback Dillon Leffingwell threw an interception of his own to Gallia Academy’s Drew Young. After multiple possessions by each team, the first quarter came to an end with a tied score of 0-0.
The second quarter started with a Gallia Academy possession, but on the second play of the series Gallia Academy threw another interception that was returned for a touchdown, but due to a clipping penalty, was called back and placed on Warren’s own nineteen yard line.
After a short drive Warren was intercepted by Bryant Bokovitz to give the Blue Devils the ball. Gallia Academy’s drive was capped off by a Brandon Taylor touchdown. The Blue Devils were not satisfied with just one score, as Drew Young intercepted a Leffingwell pass and took it all the way back for a Gallia Academy touchdown.
After another failed Warrior drive, Gallia Academy finished their drive with a forty-two yard field goal by Brandon Taylor, that tied his own school record, that gave Gallia Academy a 17-0 lead.
Warren had better luck on their next drive with a fifty-five yard pass from Leffingwell to Jeremy Fivecoat for the Warrior’s first score of the night. Warren failed at the two point conversion to leave the score at halftime 17-6 in favor of Gallia Academy.
After a back-and-forth second half, despite being plagued by 128 yards in penalties, Gallia Academy held on to take the victory led by quarterback Wade Jarrel (3-10 passing for 43 yards and 2 interceptions), and runningbacks Brandon Taylor (15 carries for 87 yards, 1 TD, 3 field goals) and Cody Russel (12 carries for 69 yards).
Warren was lead by quarterback Dillon Leffingwell (19-41 passing for 257 yards, 1 TD and 2 interceptions), runningback Jeremy Hastie (9 carries for 27 yards and 9 receptions for 85 yards), and receiver Jeremy Fivecoat (6 receptions for 108 yards).
Gallia Academy gained most of their yards on the ground with 259 yards, while Warren used the air attack with 257 yards passing. Gallia Academy finished with 301 total yards, while Warren finished with 323 total yards.
