Rediscovery – Never Ends: Glass by Sungsoo Kim opens at the Zanesville Museum of Art on March 1 with a free public reception from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 15.

Sungsoo Kim’s cast glass sculptures take inspiration from discarded packaging materials such as Styrofoam cartons from newly purchased computers or TVs.

After arranging the Styrofoam materials, Kim casts them in bright, translucent, colored glass, and only on closer inspection does one see the subtle texture of the original Styrofoam.

Kim’s glass sculptures play with mass, transparency, and form, and by doing so, he invites the viewer on the path to rediscovery.

Sungsoo Kim studied glass at the Kookmin University South Korea, earned a Master of Arts before he came to the United States to study at the Pilchuk Glass School in Washington State, and received a Master of Fine Arts from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.

Currently, Kim is an adjunct faculty member at the Cleveland Institute of Art and an Instructor at Kent State University. He has exhibited nationally and internationally with artwork in both public and private collections.

The Zanesville Museum of Art is located at 620 Military Road. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday; 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday; and closed Sunday through Tuesday. Visit www.zanesvilleart.org for more information.
