Man Dead Following Fall Near Campus

William Patrick Thomas, 23, was found in the rear stairwell of The Overhang bar and restaurant in cardiac arrest. Police officers were responding to call of a man that had fallen and was bleeding from the head.
Thomas was taken to O'Bleness Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Athens County Coroner has requested an autopsy be performed.
Investigators say early reports indicated no foul play or suspicious activity in his death.
Athens Police are investigating the death of a man near the Ohio University campus early Sunday morning.
Officers responded to the rear stairwell of The Overhang at 63 North Court Street in response to a man that had fallen and was bleeding from the head. Upon arrival, investigators found William Patrick Thomas, 23, of Gahanna in cardiac arrest, according to a police report.
Police performed CPR on Thomas until an ambulance could arrived. He was transported to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Athens County Coroner has requested an autopsy be performed.
