West Virginia Senate Approves Creation Of Veteran Agriculture Program
< < Back to wva-senate-approves-creation-veteran-agriculture-programThe West Virginia Senate has approved a bill to educate and support veterans in the field of agriculture.
The Veterans and Warriors to Agriculture Program creates a fund for the Department of Agriculture to use to integrate veterans into agriculture jobs. The bill approved Monday aims to help vets find employment after returning from combat as well as strengthen the future of the state's agriculture economy.
Agriculture Commissioner Walt Helmick said he hopes the program develops entrepreneurs. He said veterans have the spirit and know-how to establish successful agricultural businesses.
The fund may support veterans currently working or hoping to work with high tunnel crops, the apiary industry, cottage industries, niche crops, the aquaculture industry and post-mine land for agricultural development.
The bill now goes to the House.
