Waterford Uses Big Plays To Defeat Miller

Football season in southeast Ohio is in full swing, as the Miller Falcons dropped their opening game of the season to the Waterford Wildcats 37-6 Friday night.
It was a battle of quarterbacks as Miller’s Cole Geil, and Waterford’s Isaac Huffman were easily able to move the ball in the air throughout the game, but the story of this game is told through turnovers.
An early first quarter interception of Cole Geil in the red zone by Waterford’s Ty McGraw was taken all the way to the house and brought the score to 16-0 Waterford. Geil rebounded on the next drive with a 70-yard touchdown pass to fellow senior Carson Starlin, but the Falcons failed to capitalize on the momentum. A second Geil turnover in the red zone before halftime was the nail in the Falcons coffin, as they didn’t score the rest of the game.
Waterford’s Isaac Huffman showed throughout the game why he is one of the more versatile quarterbacks in the Hocking, scrambling around the right edge for 15 yards on the Wildcats first drive, then taking a 28-yard keeper to the end zone, guaranteeing the 24-6 halftime lead.
Miller ran into a defensive wall all game, and the absence of All-TVC running back Kody Mckinniss was glaring as the Falcons became completely one dimensional with the Wildcats plugging up every rushing lane.
Miller now turns its sights to next week’s matchup at Eastern, a team that understands Miller’s pain, dropping their own opener to River Valley 51-27.
Waterford will look to stay undefeated as they take on Wahama at home, the White Falcons are coming off a 26-14 opening victory against Ravenswood.
