West Virginia Warned About Fake Funeral Email
< < Back toState Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is warning West Virginians about a scam that's landing in email inboxes around the country.
Morrisey says scammers are sending fake "funeral notice" emails that often contain the names, addresses and logos of local funeral homes.
Those getting the email click a link that ultimately lets their computer be hijacked by malicious software.
Once the computer is infected, the software can be used to steal personal and financial information or send out spam emails.
Morrisey says not to click on links in emails from unknown people and make sure computer anti-virus software is updated.
