The Zane Trace Pioneers took care of business and kept their playoff hopes alive Friday night at home against the visiting Huntington Huntsmen with a solid victory of 32-24.

Zane Trace has been on fire ever since its week two shutout loss against Waverly, and it was the same story Friday as they add another game to their winning streak, making it seven straight.

Zane Trace had a quick scare early on in the game as Huntington came out strong with a 56-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Elijah McCloskey to Jesse Lewis capping a 91-yard drive in the very first possession.

The Pioneers seemed dominant the rest of the half by scoring two unanswered touchdowns but just could not pull away. The defense did hold its own, however, and never seemed to let up or give Huntington a meaningful drive.

It was still anybody’s game at half with the score 14-7 in Zane Trace’s favor. The Pioneers came out firing quick in the second half however, returning opening-half kickoff for a touchdown.

It seemed as if Zane Trace had completely taken control of the game in the third quarter as the Pioneers would follow up their kickoff return touchdown with another touchdown on the next possession racking up the score 24-7 to end the third.

Huntington tried to make a mini comeback in the fourth quarter by putting up two consecutive touchdowns, but Zane Trace was too dominant on both sides of the ball by slowing down the Huntington offense before time ran out.

The offense was very spread out but Austin Harris was again the star of the game leading the Pioneers to another high-scoring victory. Harris in the air was 5-13 with 111 yards and rushed for 84 yards on 16 attempts with a touchdown.

Etheridge Games was another key to the Pioneer offense in the running game. Games ran for 108 yards and one touchdown on 17 attempts.

Up next for Zane Trace is a road game against a 1-7 Westfall team on Friday, October 28th. This is a game with serious playoff implications where a loss could put the Pioneers on the bubble, but a win would seal the deal for the postseason.
