John Kasich to bring home dozens of state troopers sent to North Dakota as protesters try to halt construction of the Dakota Access oil pipeline.
Thirty-seven Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers departed for the protests on Saturday.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Vice Mayor David Mann and President Pro-Tem Yvette Simpson signed the letter sent to the Republican governor on Tuesday, along with councilmembers Chris Seelbach, P.G. Sittenfeld and Wendell Young.
The letter says the images of “militarized police” facing off against unarmed Native Americans harken back to when the federal government “committed genocide against native tribes” to take their land and resources.
A protest is planned on Wednesday morning outside Cincinnati City Hall.
