< < Back to freshman-bachman-picks-first-career-win-4-2-over-daytonAfter falling in game one of the afternoon at UD Softball Stadium, Ohio bounced back for a solid 4-2 win in six innings over Dayton.
The game was cut short due to darkness in the top of the seventh with the Bobcats at the plate.
Ohio scored its first three runs on a sharp, bases-clearing single by Alexia Cortez that came about after the Flyers’ right fielder threw the ball away.
“I was just trying to come up and get a base hit and score some runs,” Cortez said. “… We kind of picked her pitches so I knew what was coming and went with it.”
Freshman lefty Leanna Bachman picked up the victory for the Bobcats in her first career game on the mound for Ohio. Bachman went 3 1/3 innings of work and gave up seven hits and two earned runs.
“I’m just so proud of her for the work that she did“ said head coach Jodi Hermanek. “We said in the huddle, just get out here and play softball and not make it overly complicated.”
Lauren McClary came on in a strong relief performance to pitch the last 2 2/3 innings, striking out four without giving up a run.
Of note was the fact that Chelsea Hortman started her first game of the 2014 season for the Bobcats and picked up a walk, an RBI and a run.
Casie Hutchinson picked up two base-knocks in the cold contest in which the Ohio bats heated up a bit.
The ‘Cats moved to 15-13 with the victory, as Dayton fell to 9-13.
