Incumbent Republicans Cathy E. Coleman and Mike Crabtree will be keeping their seats as Scioto County Commissioners.

Coleman beat her opponent, Democrat and former Portsmouth mayor David Malone, with 18,481 votes.

The Portsmouth Daily Times reported on September 1 that Coleman’s husband, former County Commissioner Doug Coleman, died of natural causes.

Cathy Coleman then accepted the Republican party’s offer of her former husband’s seat, completing his first and only term.

Coleman also accepted the party’s offer to run on the 2016 ballot for the position.

The Portsmouth Daily Times also reported that Malone ran in the last race for the office in 2014.

He got 9,618 votes.

Crabtree beat his opponent, Democrat Kevin W. Johnson, with 18,136 votes.

Johnson got 9,933.

According to his campaign’s Facebook page, Crabtree ran on a platform mainly built on financial stability.

Throughout the race, he also often drew attention to the fact that he was born and raised in Scioto County, while his opponent, Johnson, was not.

According to his campaign’s Facebook page, Johnson ran with a focus on government transparency and accessibility.

He served the First Ward of the Portsmouth City Council for over six years.
