Former Alexander Coach Arno Accepts Job At Wellington
< < Back to former-alexander-coach-arno-accepts-job-wellingtonSean Arno will be back on the sidelines next season. The Lorain County Chronicle-Telegram reported Wednesday that the former Alexander head coach accepted the same position at Wellington High School. The hire came four months after Arno resigned as the Spartans' front man.
Wellington, like Alexander, is an OHSAA Division-V school.
Arno cited family reasons for calling it quits in November after nine seasons at Alexander. But the allure of a presigious program such as Wellington was attractive. Arno told the Chronicle-Telegram that he was initially drawn to his new school because of the importance of football in the school and the community.
Arno will replace former Dukes coach Matt Stoll, after Stoll stepped down following 24 years at the helm in December in what the Chronicle-Telegram reported was a "joint decision." The Dukes were 6-14 over their last two seasons under Stoll.
In nine seasons at Alexander, Arno compiled a 40-52 record. He took over a school that was 0-45 all-time in the TVC-Ohio in 2005 and led it to its first two playoff appearances in 2008 and 2009. He is a former Gridiron Glory Coach of the Year.
Arno's wife's family is from the Lorain County area. The former Spartan coach told the Chronicle-Telegram he considered a few positions when he and his wife decided to move back to the area, but ultimately decided Wellington was the best fit for his family.
