Book Author To Talk On Western Vs. Middle Eastern Notions Of Feminism
< < Back to book-author-talk-western-vs-middle-eastern-notions-feminismLisa Kirchner, author of Hello American Lady Creature: What I Learned as a Woman in Qatar, will give a talk titled "Different Notions of Feminism: Western vs. Middle Eastern" on Thursday, March 27 at 4 p.m. at the Ohio University Women's Center.
After 9/11 and before the first al-Qaeda-urged, anti-Western bombing in Qatar in 2005, Lisa Kirchner and her husband moved from Pittsburgh, Pa., to the Persian Gulf with the hope he might become a foreign correspondent.
"With my pale hair and sea-colored eyes, I did not blend in," Kirchner said in a press release. "I was regarded as an almost alien being, which made me incredibly lonely. Until my husband actually left. And then I realized I could get away with almost anything.”
In Hello American Lady Creature, Kirchner vividly offers up her own personal journey in rebuilding her life.
The talk is being presented as part of the Center's International Women's History Month programming. A audience Q&A session will follow Kirchner's talk.
The OU Women's Center is located in 403 Baker University Center. For more information about upcoming events, visit www.ohio.edu/womenscenter. For more information about Lisa Kirchner, visit www.helloamericanladycreature.com.
