Hrynewich Sets School Record As Ohio Finishes Tenth
< < Back to hrynewich-sets-school-record-ohio-finishes-tenthFreshman Hailey Hrynewich set a school record on Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough to stop the women’s golf team from sliding back to finish tenth at the Ocala Invitational.
Hyrnewich shot a 73 in the final round, good enough to finish with a score of 218 (+2), a new school record for Ohio University women’s golf. Her excellent play throughout the weekend earned her the MAC Women’s Golfer of the Week and a third place finish at the invitational. It was the best placing for a member of the Bobcats since Angela Codian finished in second at the Dayton Fall Invitational in 2012.
Her score was not enough to lift the team, however. The Bobcats, who were tied for ninth on Sunday and held sole possession of ninth on Monday, finished tenth. The team’s score of 920 (+56) for the tournament was the third best tournament score in team history, but the Bobcats still finished tenth out of sixteen teams.
Senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer shot a 73, a career-best, and finished tied for 25th with a tournament score of 230 (+14).
The Bobcats were rounded out by Codian, senior Kara Brinkmann and junior Julie Lechner, who shot 82, 82, and 78, respectively, on Tuesday. Codian finished with a total of 235 (+19). Brinkmann ended with a score of 241 (+25) and Lechner with a 242 (+26)
The Bobcats will travel to Richmond, Kentucky on April 4 to compete in the 2014 Lady Colonel Classic.
