Eastern Flops With Poor Shooting, Turnovers Against Miller
< < Back to eastern-flops-with-poor-shooting-turnovers-against-millerEastern shot 17 for 46 from the field Tuesday, including 0 for 9 from three-point land en route to a 58 to 46 loss at Miller.
The Miller Falcons went on a 10-2 run to start the second half, and from that point on never relinquished a 10-point lead. Forward Seattle Compston led Miller, as he finished with 28 points and 7 rebounds
“We aren’t going to face many big men like Miller had tonight, I think he did a very nice job in the post,” said Eastern coach Jeremy Hill.
On top of that, the Falcons were switching up their defenses. On many occasions the team played a 3-2 zone, but would switch to a man-to-man and also played a box-and-one where Miller played zone with four players and played man-to-man on Eastern guard Jett Facemyer.
This led to Facemyer only scoring once in the first half, but he did finish with 20 points on the night.
“The first half, we tried to take myself out of the equation and play four on four ball since they were denying me, but at halftime our JV coach came with the idea to run me off some screens and really get me the ball,” said Facemyer.
Guard Sharp Facemyer also struggled in the game, especially from the three-point line, where he shot 0 for 7 and only scored two points on the night. On top of that, Facemyer turned the ball over on six occasions.
The Eagles also found it hard to keep ahold of the ball, and turned it over 16 times. Furthermore, Eastern only had five assists.
The one bright spot for Eastern was that forward Corbett Catlett shot 7 for 10 from the field scoring 14 points and grabbing six rebounds.
In the first half, Eastern only made seven field goals and turned the ball over 12 times, leaving it trailing 25-14 heading into the locker rooms.
The Eagles did double their point total in the third quarter alone, but found themselves trailing by more once the quarter ended at 41-28. After that, Miller continued to keep the pressure on Eastern, and the lead was never in doubt during the fourth quarter.
“We have to start somewhere, and we are going to start with the basics of everything, we need to get better defensively, offensively we have to shoot the ball better,” stated Coach Hill. “I don’t think there is one phase of the game that we are very good at right now.”
The Eagles look to bounce back on Friday at Trimble.
“We are going to key on the press because we know Trimble is going to try to press us big time and get out into transition,” said Coach Hill.
