Athens Halloween Block Party “Relatively Calm”
< < Back to ?p=1776Law enforcement officials say nothing out of the ordinary took place during the annual Halloween Block Party in Athens this weekend.
Law enforcement used social media sites and a blog to keep the public and party-goers informed about what was going on at this year's event.
According to a news release, The Athens and Ohio University Police Departments handled 109 calls for service Saturday night through early Sunday morning.
50 people were arrested during that time.
Athens County EMS officials say they handled more calls this year than during last year's block party.
They responded to 46 calls for assistance.
Most of those calls were for alcohol-related issues.
Athens Safety-Service Director Paula Moseley says, "The evening was relatively calm in the event area. The City of Athens is grateful to the collaborative efforts and planning with Ohio University, Athens County Sheriff's Office and the Clean and Safe Halloween Committee and all of the Athens City and outside supporting agencies."
Police reported that Friday night was also pretty calm.
Athens Police reported there were a total of eight arrests on Friday night.
Six of those were underage consumption arrests.
Athens Police handled five noise complaints, five traffic stops, took one Assault report, one Burglary report and had one fight call Friday night.
