It was senior day for Ohio University Swimming and Diving and the seniors went out in dominating fashion as the Bobcats beat the Toledo Lady Rockets 188 to 71 and improved to 5-3 in duel meets.

The Bobcats were so dominant in fact, that they won every single event swimming and diving. They even took first and second in half of the swimming events.

Senior Laura Dawson, who was last week’s Ohio female scholar-athlete, won all three events she was in including the 200-yard medley relay. She sported a 57.56 in the 100-yard backstroke. Her third victory on the day was in the 200-yard backstroke where she swam a 2:04.87.

The other seniors, Myriah Ariza-Balter, Josie Barker, and Carrie Dukes, all finished on high notes today as well. Ariza-Balter finished 2nd in both the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke only to Dawson. Dukes finished first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.44, just 0.4 second before Toledo’s Bailey Cahill. Barker contributed to the Bobcat’s dominate day with a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:16.83. All the women swam in a 200 free relay at the end of the meet as well.

Dawson was not the only Bobcat that had multiple wins on the day. Each member of the 200 medley relay had multiple victories. Freshman Mikayla Herich also won in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:21.08 and notched a 2:05.49 to take home the 200 individual medley. Sophomore Corrin Van Lanen had individual wins in the 50 free and 100 free and anchored the winning 200 free relay to finish the meet. Freshman Emily Zimcosky swam a 1:52.28 to take the 200 free. She was also the first leg of the 200 free relay which swam a 1:36.72.

Claire Mikesell and Annie Gosselin also notched individual victories for Ohio’s strong freshman class in the 100 breast and 200 fly, respectively. Mikesell was also a part of the 200 free relay.

Ohio will be heading to Huntington, W. Va. next weekend, Feb. 3-4, for the Marshall invite. This will be the last regular season meet before the Bobcats head to Miami for the Mid-American Conference Championships on February 22-25.
