Female Student To Be Charged For Bomb Threat ‘Prank’

The female student that allegedly left two letters in a girls bathroom at Athens High School threatening a bomb explosion will be charged, law enforcement said Tuesday
The name of the juvenile student was not released by the Athens County Sheriff's Office, but investigators said in a report that they would be referring the case to Athens County Juvenile Court, where she would be charged with inducing panic.
At about 9 a.m. Monday, a student told school officials that she had found two notes in the girls bathroom indicating there was a bomb in the school and that it would detonate at 1:30 p.m., according to the sheriff's office report.
All students were evacuated from the building to the Scott Riggs & Family Stadium, where they stayed until about 10:30 a.m. The sheriff's office responded, along with a representative from the FBI and The Plains Volunteer Fire Department.
Detectives and school officials reviewed surveillance cameras and determined that the girl that located the notes was a "viable suspect," according to the report.
"After detectives and school officials interviewed the female, she indicated that she was the one who made the notes for a prank and thought it would be funny," the report stated.
School officials requested that criminal charges be filed. The school was cleared of any explosives, according to Captain Bryan Cooper of the sheriff's office, and students were allowed back inside.
