Carter’s Career Night Helps Ohio Win Battle of the Bricks

Jason Carter has made an impact since being pushed into Ohio’s starting lineup. At Miami on Tuesday, Carter left a crater.
Carter dropped 25 points and gathered 11 rebounds in Ohio’s 79-62 victory over the RedHawks.
“It’s getting more and more comfortable as each game goes on,” said Carter. “Each game seems to be getting easier and easier and playing as a team as a whole we’re just playing well. That’s helped me out a lot.”
Carter was scored the game’s first four points and dominated throughout. Carter nearly reached the 20-point mark before any other player reached 10 points.
Ohio led for nearly the entire game. A Darius Harper layup with just under nine minutes left in the first half gave Miami a one-point lead that the RedHawks held for only 59 seconds. Gavin Block nailed a jumper for Ohio and the Bobcats never trailed again.
Jordan Dartis swished a buzzer beater from half court to end the half and give Ohio a 16-point, 38-22 lead.
The Bobcats’ lead slipped to below 10 just once in the second half before growing to as high as 19 before the final buzzer.
Dartis got in foul trouble and did not score a point in the second half. That is when Jaaron Simmons played a little more like Jaaron Simmons.
Simmons scored 13 in the second half and 21 overall. Simmons, though, only collected three rebounds and one assist which all came in the second half.
“Just played a bad game. I feel like it was one of our worst games of the year as a whole. One of mine as well,” said Simmons. “But we came out with a win on the road and held that second-place spot.”
Ohio (18-8, 10-5) sits behind Akron (22-6, 12-3) in the Mid-American Conference East Division with just three games until the MAC Tournament.
The Bobcats will take their four-game winning streak to Kent State (16-2, 8-7) on Saturday. Ohio then wraps up the regular season the next week with visits from Buffalo and Miami.
