Alli Kern stood under the basket and shot.  The ball clanked off the rim and Kern snagged the offensive rebound.  Repeat and repeat before Kern finally made the ball through the hoop.

Waterford defeated Fairfield 46-17 Saturday, but those missed shots came plenty in what may have been one of the worst games Waterford has played.  The Lady Wildcats looked unlike themselves, but the Lady Lions didn’t exactly play like the number 4-seed either.

Fairfield went without a score in the first quarter and did not score until Grace Shope went 1-2 from the free throw line.  The Lady Lions were down 14-1.

Fairfield didn’t even have a field goal until Abagail Newkirk scored with 1:36 until halftime.  The Lady Lions only had four field goals the entire game.

Only four Lady Lions scored points and nine of the 17 total came from the charity stripe.

Waterford could make buckets, but it sure wasn’t easy for them.  Shots were air-balled, smacked off the glass and bricked off the rim.  The Lady Wildcats were saved with rebounds.

Waterford had 18 offensive boards, more than the 16 on the defensive side.  Kern had six offensive rebounds and Ashley Offenberger added another five.

Megan Ball led the game with 14 points and crashed for seven rebounds and added two blocks.  Kern had a near double-double with 13 points and nine total rebounds.

The Lady Wildcats continued a playoff streak that hasn’t been broken since losing the State Finals in 2015.  Waterford just came off a nine-day stretch without a game and now has another five days before South Webster at Jackson.

Waterford defeated the South Webster Lady Jeeps 62-27 in last season’s regional semi-final on its way to a State Championship.
