Peoples Bank Theatre Features Wide Array Of Live Entertainment In April
< < Back to peoples-bank-theatre-features-wide-array-of-live-entertainment-in-aprilThe historic Peoples Bank Theatre in downtown Marietta presents a diverse calendar of concerts during the month of April, including events that will be recorded for broadcast nationally on radio and television.
In conjunction with downtown Marietta’s First Friday and Marietta Founders Day, Peoples Bank Theatre is joining with The Castle to present Lest We Forget: Remembering Washington County in World War I on Friday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 general admission.
Featured speakers include Dr. Paul Lockhart, author and historian, Wright State University; Sgt. First Class Joshua Mann, Historian, Ohio National Guard; Becki Trivison, program coordinator, Local History & World War One Commemoration, Ohio History Connection; Dr. Matthew Young, historian, Marietta College.
The program also includes music performances by Marietta College Wind Ensemble and Marietta College Choir; The Wayfarers; Barefoot McCoy; Square Thirteen; Dan Heidt; Anthony Mossburg; and Shawna Corder.
Prior to the concert, the theatre will be open for pay-what-you-want tours from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
The following Sunday, April 9 at 7 p.m., Mountain Stage with Larry Groce will come to Peoples Bank Theatre. The two-hour radio show is produced in West Virginia and distributed by National Public Radio weekly on more than 200 stations across America and around the world via NPR Music and mountainstage.org. The show, which is recorded before a live audience, features performances by seasoned legends and emerging stars in genres ranging from folk, blues and country to indie rock, synth pop, world and alternative music, and beyond. Musical guests include rising blues star Shemekia Copeland, singer-songwriter Bridget Kearney, and California-based string band trio The T Sisters, with additional artists to be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets start at $20.
On Friday, April 21, at 8 p.m., British music duo Bookends will bring to the stage their musical tribute “Simon & Garfunkel: Through the Years.” Accompanied by a live string quartet, Dan Hayes and Pete Richards strive for an authentic sounding tribute to the classic music of Simon & Garfunkel, including hits such as “The Sound of Silence,” “Mrs. Robinson,” “The Boxer,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Tickets start at $15.
On Saturday, April 22, Peoples Bank Theatre will host a full day of free music as part of the Brick Street Arts Bash, sponsored by the Department of Music at Marietta College and the Ohio Arts Council. The day’s schedule includes performances by the Marietta Children’s Choir, Parkersburg High School A Capella Choir, Fight the Power, Escher String Quartet, Transit Arts Dance and Music, Vintage Mix Barbershop Quartet, Kent and Nannette Knappenberger, and an 8 p.m. Jazz and Blues concert. At 3 p.m. that day, the theatre will host a live taping of American Public Television’s “Songs at the Center.” Featured artists will include Jessica Baldwin, Todd Burge, Bob Thompson, and Eric Genzda, as well as student singer-songwriters from across Ohio. The performances will be rebroadcast on more than 150 stations nationwide.

• The Branford Marsalis Quartet with Kurt Elling, presented by the Esbenshade Series of Marietta College on Sunday, April 23 at 7 p.m.
• Marietta College Spring Band Concert on Tuesday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m.
• Dancing with the Docs, presented by McDonald’s of Marietta on Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m.
