Three near-by track programs will ascend upon Athens this weekend for the Ohio Cherry Blossom Invitational hosted by Ohio University at Goldsberry Track. The three other schools, Marshall University, College of Charleston and Rio Grande, will be attempting to slow down the Bobcats while Ohio is looking to continue to build upon the momentum they have built in the past three weekends they spent down in the Carolinas.

The field events, which have been the strongest part of Ohio’s performance this season, are set to begin at 11:30 a.m. Expect to see strong showings from junior Jordan Porter in the shot put. Senior Emma Ryan and sophomore Gaza Odunaiya should both finish high in discus and Ryan should also have a strong showing in the hammer throw. With the strong showings these three put up at the Raleigh Relays, as well as all season, throws feature to be key. Expect Porter, Ryan and Odunaiya, as well as all field athletes, to take the top spot in most events.

Running events should also yield strong results for the Bobcats. Senior Amelia Milton has posted a 2:12.11 in the 800-meter, the second-best time in the Mid-American Conference.

Other distance runners expected to perform well are senior Ellen Isaac and sophomore Alyssa Atkinson in the 5k. The 4×400 relay team of sophomores Gracie Huffman, Erin Stewart, Emily Deering and freshman Marissa Handel could also have a strong showing as they are currently fifth in the MAC in that event with a 3:53.20.

The running events are scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
