This Summer Libraries Invite Children to ‘Build a Better World’
< < Back to this-summer-libraries-invite-children-to-build-a-better-worldHosted by the Athens County Public Libraries since 1999, Summer at the Library offers a full schedule of free programs, workshops and lunches for children and teens. The 2017 schedule runs from June 5 through mid-August.
This year’s theme is “Build a Better World,” a concept reflected in various workshops ranging from gardening and songwriting to making birdhouses and kites.
Participants can expect hands-on activities and presentations that explore the sciences, arts, literacy, and physical fitness, led by both noted local and out-of-state experts and enthusiasts.
Live sting rays in mobile tanks will be the libraries’ first summer guests of honor Monday, June 5 when attendees learn about these fascinating creatures in Glouster at 11 a.m. and The Plains at 2 p.m.
“Summer is a library’s busiest time of year, as parents want to find ways to keep their kids engaged and learning while they’re out of school,” library system director Nick Tepe said. “Providing fun programming and entertaining books to keep kids’ minds active all summer long is one of the most important things we do for the community, and one of the most rewarding for us.”
