The Zanesville Museum of Art’s 2014 free summer concert series, Musical Color II , concludes on Saturday, Aug. 23 with The Wayfarers, playing old-time Appalachian mountain music.

This free and public concert will take place on the museum’s front lawn from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with one short intermission. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will move inside the museum.

Hailing from Zanesville, The Wayfarers consist of Josh Hartman on guitar, harmonica, and vocals; Kenzie Maynard on fiddle and vocals; Brandon Bankes on mandolin and vocals; Justin Rayner on banjo and vocals; and Nathan Zangmeister on upright washtub bass and vocals.

The band emerged onto the scene in early 2010 playing their own form of American roots music. While much of their repertoire is drawn from the Appalachian tradition they revere, The Wayfarers fuse tight musicianship – centered largely by the fiddle – with the high energy that characterized early mountain music.

With old-time radio shows setting the example, their style encompasses Appalachian dance music, traditional mountain fiddle tunes and pre-bluegrass music of the 1920s, resulting in a dose of nostalgic Americana.

The Zanesville Museum of Art is able to present the free summer concert series Musical Color II through the generosity of area businesses and organizations. The Wayfarers concert is underwritten by Ohio University Zanesville. Other supporters include the Beaux Arts Club, Tri-Y Inc., Shelly & Sands Inc., Dutro Ford-Lincoln-Nissan, Kessler Sign Company, North Valley Bank, Huntington National Bank, Taylor McHenry Memorial Fund, Ohio Arts Council and Zandex Health Care.
