Bull Named MAC East Defensive POW
< < Back to bull-named-mac-east-defensive-powOhio volleyball middle blocker Karin Bull has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 1.
The junior led the Bobcats blocks during their 1-2 run at the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, with a total of 14 — four solo and ten assisted. Bull was a key part of Ohio ending the tournament with a 44-39 advantage above the net.
During the ‘Cats close loss to Arizona State, the 6-foot-2-inch Minnesota native accounted for six — two solo, four assisted — of the team’s total 26 blocks in the match. In Ohio’s victory against San Diego State, Bull also led the way defensively with a match-high five blocks and combined with setter Abby Gilleland for four double blocks in the second set alone.
After being the second leading blocker for Ohio during the 2013 season, racking up 125 blocks and averaging 1.02 blocks per set, Bull was named to the 2013 All-MAC First Team. The Defensive Player of the Week honor, though, marks the first time that she has received one of the conference’s weekly awards.
Bull and the Bobcats will be back in action this weekend for the first time on their home court as they host the Baymont Inn & Suites Invitational at the Convocation Center. Ohio will take on Texas A&M University Friday at 7 p.m. and then Virginia Commonwealth University at noon Saturday. The 'Cats will finish up tournament play Saturday evening at 7 p.m. against Virginia Tech.
