Walker, Silveira Sweep MAC Weeklies
< < Back to walker-silveira-sweep-mac-weekliesOhio senior goalkeeper Brittany Walker and freshman Megan Silveira were named Mid-American Conference field hockey defensive and offensive player of the week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday, Sept. 16.
The awards come on the heels of consecutive team victories over Ohio State and MAC foe Longwood.
Walker received the weekly honor after recording two straight shutouts. She made four saves in each of the two matchups, with all four saves against Ohio State coming in the second half. The shutout over Ohio State was her first clean sheet of the season; the Defensive Player of the week award is her fifth in four seasons.
Silveira played 15 minutes off the bench in the Ohio State matchup, and she scored the decisive goal. The freshman scored off of a rebound in the 51st minute, marking her first goal of the season and propelling the Bobcats their first win, as Walker and the defense held strong.
Ohio plays No. 17 Indiana on Saturday, Sept. 20, in the final match of a three-game home stand.
