Ohio Wins Home Opener Over John Carroll
< < Back to ohio-wins-home-opener-over-john-carrollThe Bobcats opened their season in Bird Arena with a 4-0 defeat over the John Carroll Blue Streaks.
John Carroll came out strong defensively in the beginning of the game, making it difficult for Ohio to score. That didn’t last long, though, once the Blue Streaks took a penalty for cross checking.
Michael Harris soon took advantage of the power play at the Blue Streaks’ blue line and slap-shotted one in, scoring his first goal of the season for the Bobcats.
A couple big hits by Mike Lafrenier and Joe Breslin ended the first period with more than enough Bobcat pride. Ohio more than doubled John Carroll in shots on net with 12-5, and the score remained 1-0, Ohio.
The Bobcats came out strong in the second period, scoring within two minutes. It was Harris again who scored with Joe Breslin on the assist. Not even a minute after, Patrick Spellacy joined Harris’ glory, scoring a top-shelf shot for the Bobcats. The second period ended with the Bobcats leading, 3-0, and also dominating shots on goal, 20-5.
In the last and final period, goalie Aaron Alkema continued to shine and ended the game with his first shutout of the season. Vincent Nicolella finished the Blue Streaks off, scoring the last goal of the game with 7:57 remaining to take the win, 4-0.
“It’s a great way to start the season with a big win like this,” Harris said. “Everyone was seeing a lot of ice, a lot of good habits were starting, and hopefully it carries out throughout the rest of the season.”
The Ohio Bobcats will play the John Carroll Blue Streaks again Saturday night at Bird Arena. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
