Preview: Miller Determined To Spoil Homecoming For Belpre
< < Back to preview-miller-belpre-look-second-straight-winBelpre and Miller enter week seven with one thing in common: big wins in week six. Where they differ is their caliber of play. Belpre (4-2, 3-1) won three of its previous four games while Miller’s 57-8 win over Hannan was its first win since week six of 2013.
The Falcons started off the season with five straight losses with their losses against Waterford and Millersport standing as their only close results. Regardless of the record, Belpre head coach Greg Adams acknowledged Miller’s physicality.
“(Miller) runs right at you, and they play a real tight 8-man-in-the-box defense. They’re aggressive,” Adams said. “Even though their record is 1-5, they very easily could be 3-3.”
If history is any indication, Miller will be in for quite the challenge. Miller fell to Belpre 39-0 last year and Belpre has won its last two matchups against Miller by a combined score of 93-14. Through four conference games this season, Miller has been outscored by 124 points.
That was last year and this Friday, a new Miller team will come to town.
“We’re concentrating every week on one team, and we always tell our players not to overlook any of these TVC teams,” Adams said. “Football, in any sport, the ball can bounce many different ways, so you practice hard every day. You win the practices, so you can go out and win the games on Friday nights.”
As for Belpre, the Golden Eagles remain in the middle of the pack, but three wins over the past four weeks has Belpre brimming with confidence, especially after last week’s performance.
The Golden Eagles rushed for 156 yards of their 180 total yards in last Friday’s win over South Gallia, with Manny Tullius leading the way with 108 yards on 18 carries. It was Belpre’s first win on the road this season, as they are now 1-2 in road games and 3-0 at home.
The Falcons will look for their first TVC-Hocking win in two years and spoil Belpre’s homecoming when they kick off Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Belpre.
