Coolville WWII Vet Asks For Memorial Change
< < Back to coolville-wwii-vet-asks-memorial-changeAs the nation celebrated Veterans Day last week, people everywhere took time to remember the men and women who have served our country.
One Coolville World War II veteran recently gave testimony asking the US Secretary of the Interior to make a prominent change to the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.
George Fowler says he wants President Franklin Roosevelt's prayer on the morning of D-Day to be inscribed on the memorial. "It applies to all, even today, the prayer carries on. It was for victory, victory was came, but it would come at a dear cost of many lives," Fowler said.
Fowler went on an "Honor Flight", a program that flies veterans to Washington, DC to see the World War II Memorial.
He says he became emotional when he laid eyes on it. "Well, it brings a tear to your eye, I'll tell ya after going in and seeing all the other veterans that were there, and I had the opportunity to meet Bob Dole who started the whole thing," he says.
Fowler says the next honor flight for veterans in Southeast Ohio will be in April 2012.
