Schools Benefit From Ohio Foresting

The "Trees to Textbooks" program through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources gives a percentage of the revenue generated from state forest management activity to the school district and surrounding areas where the foresting took place.
South Elementary in Hamden, part of the Vinton Local School District in southern Ohio, was awarded the largest check Wednesday, for more than $327,000.
The agency's Division of Forestry is responsible for the care of nearly 200,000 acres of state forests, managing them for overall health and diversity, soil and water conservation, wildlife habitat and recreation.
