Spartans Force 21 Turnovers In Dominant Win over Nelsonville-York

One play showed the way the night went for the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes and it wasn’t even a basketball play.
Ethan Boyher grabbed the ball after a foul was called on his team and slammed it between his hands, letting out some frustrations during a game that saw N-Y fall to the Alexander Spartans 64-48.
It was a frustrating night for the Buckeyes (5-6) who turned the ball over 21 times in the game. Many offensive fouls were called against the Buckeyes, leading to some flustered faces and foul trouble for some of the N-Y players.
After being down by 8 after the first quarter, the Buckeyes fought back to cut the lead to three points. Once they came out for the next half, they couldn’t keep up, as they were outscored 36-23 in the second half.
There were some bright spots for the team tonight, as Mikey Seel ended the game with 12 points and went 4-8 from the three point line. Ethan Boyher was able to shake off his frustrating night enough to pour in 9 points and had 6 rebounds.
The Alexander Spartans (7-4) used a big night from Dylan Mecum, who had a double-double for the Spartans as he poured in 20 points, 11 rebounds and also added in 4 steals as well.
It was also a big night for Stone Markins-Erwin who made his season debut tonight after sitting out all year trying to recover from a shoulder injury. He made a nice impact for the Spartans off the bench, scoring 7 points while also hitting a three.
The Spartans also used suffocating defense to force turnovers and heavily contest shots at the rim. Caleb Terry used his size to his advantage as he contested a good amount of shots whenever he was in the game.
After this loss to Alexander, the N-Y Buckeyes will look to bounce back in their next game against the Trimble Tomcats while Alexander will look to win their third straight game when they take on the Warren Warriors.
