Country music legend Merle Haggard has been booked to appear at the Nelsonville Music Festival in May.

On Friday, Stuart’s Opera House made its first round of lineup announcements for the festival, including Haggard.

In addition to 40 No. 1 hits, Haggard has charted scores of Top 10 songs and received numerous music awards, both as a performer and song writer.

In 1994, he was inducted into the County Music Hall of Fame, which states that Haggard “remains, with the arguable exception of Hank Williams, the single most influential singer-songwriter in country music history.”

Others to appear at the festival are art-rock guitar virtuoso St. Vincent and rising Americana act Trampled By Turtles.

St. Vincent has released four albums and collaborated with David Byrne of Talking Heads fame, as well as with Bon Iver, Andrew Bird and Swans, among others. Recently, she was a front woman for Nirvana, replacing Kurt Cobain at the 2014 Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame concert.

Trampled by Turtles produces a hybrid folk sound that is continuing to evolve with each new album released since the band formed in 2003 in Duluth, Minnesota. The release of 2012’s Stars And Satellites saw the band play to more fans than ever, sell close to 100,000 albums and make their first national television appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman. Their newest album, Wild Animals, was released earlier this year.

Friday’s line-up announcement also includes Hurray for the Riff Raff, Moon Hooch, and My Bubba. Additional acts will be announced later.

The 11th annual Nelsonville Music Festival will be held May 28-31, 2015 at Robbins Crossing on the campus of Hocking College in Nelsonville. There will be more than 40 bands on multiple stages, with camping, kids activities, local artisan vendors, food, a beer garden and more.
