Ohio BMV Hoping To Start Accepting Credit Cards
< < Back to ohio-bmv-hoping-start-accepting-credit-cardsThe Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles is hoping to accept credit and debit cards for the first time by the end of next year.
The cards will be accepted as payment for driver's license and vehicle registration renewals and other transactions at the state's 192 BMV deputy registrar offices.
BMV spokeswoman Lindsey Bohrer tells the Columbus Dispatch for a story Monday that the agency has been working with the state treasurer's office to put the plan together.
Bohrer says until last year government agencies were not allowed to pass along credit-card fees to consumers, making it too expensive to accept cards for state business transactions.
The fees would likely be less than the current $2.50 to $3 fee for using ATMs located inside many registrar offices.
