Alexander Boys: Dec. 13-20
< < Back to alexander-boys-jan-13-20The Alexander Spartans (4-2, 2-1 TVC-Ohio) played two games over the past week, splitting those games with Vinton County and Meigs. The Spartans are in the midst of a six-game road-trip.
On Tuesday, the Spartans travelled to McArthur to take on the Vinton County Vikings, but dropped that contest 54-48. On Friday, the Spartans were at Meigs High School to battle the Marauders and got back in the win column with the 46-42 win.
On Tuesday, the Spartans were led by junior forward Seth Richardson’s 18 points and seven rebounds, as well as junior guard Mason Chapman’s 14 points and six rebounds.
Vinton County came out strong against the Spartans, leading 33-26 at halftime, but the Spartan defense tightened up in the second, which gave Alexander the opportunity to get back into the game.
In the third quarter, the Spartans took a 40-39 lead thanks to a Richardson jumper, but that was as close as Alexander would get to the victory. In the fourth, Vinton County’s Derek Jones hit two 3-pointers that were huge for the Vikings. The Vinton County defense also battened down the hatches late, holding the Spartans scoreless over the last 2:20 of the game.
The Spartans struggled from deep in this contest as well, shooting only 4-20 from beyond the arc. Three of those makes were from senior point guard Jordan Moseley, who finished with 13 points.
On Friday, the boys from Albany found themselves in another nail-biter against the Meigs Marauders, but this time came away with the narrow 4-point victory.
Following their 1-1 week, the Spartans now sit in third-place in the TVC-Ohio, tied with Vinton County. Alexander has three more games on the road before returning home, next taking on Russell High School in Kentucky on Saturday, Dec. 27.
