Repairing The Land: The Abandoned Mine Land Program

Blake Arthur is a manager for the Ohio Division of Mineral Resources Management and helps administer the abandoned mine land program.
He says according to one study, "15 jobs are created per million dollars expended and up to 205 seasonal construction jobs could be created."
Arthur handles public health and safety projects for the Division. "Our program handles hazards to the public," he says.
Ben McCament is also an Abandoned Mine Lands manager for the Division of Mineral Resources Management. He handles Acid Mine Drainage projects.
"We work with watershed groups," he says. "We work with them to identify projects."
Mine cleanups are done on private lands and on public lands.
