Exploring The Artistry of Music With Pianist Joyce Yang

Internationally acclaimed pianist Joyce Yang will be visiting Ohio University Friday, June 22 through Saturday, June 23 for a solo piano recital on Friday and to be a part of the Ohio Piano Pedagogy Seminar organized by Christopher Fisher of the Ohio University School of Music.

In 2005, at only 19 years of age, Yang won the silver medal at the 12th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, and has since performed all around the world. In the coming months, Yang will perform with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, the New York philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and many more.

WOUB’s Emily Votaw spoke with Yang about the importance of the intense, short, piano masterclass, such as the one she will be involved in in the Ohio Piano Pedagogy Seminar, her advice to aspiring musicians, and the intimate intensity of performing for others.

Yang’s recital will take place on Friday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Glidden Hall on the Ohio University campus. This event is open to the public.
