Trimble Boys Preview: Tomcats Want to Play Fast

After finishing 12-8 last season, good for third in the TVC Ohio, Trimble will try to compete again this season with just nine players. Senior Cyrus Jones is looking to step up and become one of his team’s leaders after emerging as a key contributor over the course of his career. When asked about the team’s disadvantage in size and numbers, he replied that Trimble would use their speed more to try to compete.
The team is small, both in size and numbers, but this could work out to be one of Trimble’s strengths this season. The Tomcats have been working on trying to utilize their speed advantage through the fast break and by competing to win every play; the big men run the floor well, and the guards fight for every loose ball.
Coach Curt Moore remarked that many of his players have worked hard over the offseason and are ready to contribute. This will be key, because Trimble returns just two starters—Jones and fellow senior Jacob Hooper.
The team does have a total of five seniors, however, and most of its players came up from either JV or small varsity roles last season. This type of experience can have a big impact on a team with few returning starters.
Trimble opens their season on December 2 at TVC Ohio opponent Alexander.
