UPDATE: Escaped Inmates Recaptured In Athens County

UPDATE (6:40 p.m.) — Two inmates that escaped custody in Athens County on Monday have both been recaptured.

Brian Chaney was apprehended Monday evening, according to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

UPDATE (5:14 p.m.) — Authorities in Athens County have found one of the two inmates who escaped from custody today.

Tyler Howard was picked up at a home on Walker St. in Athens, according to authorities.

Brian Chaney is still on the loose.

The two were in custody at 13 West Washington Street, Athens, when they ran away at around 3 p.m.

Chaney was wearing an orange shirt and pants – he has several tattoos and, like Howard, was barefoot when he escaped.

Two men are on the loose after escaping from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, according to officials.

Brian Chaney, 25, and Tyler Howard, 31, reportedly left the sheriff’s office premises while they were being put into a transportation van at about 2:56 p.m. on Monday, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Chaney was wearing an orange shirt and pants. He is 5’11”, 190 lbs., with brown hair and blue eyes. Howard was wearing a green shirt and pants. He is 5’7″, 210 lbs., with blond hair and green eyes. Both were barefoot and have several tattoos, according to the release.

They were last seen running on West Washington Street toward Congress St., according to an alert sent out by the county.

“Please notify law enforcement immediately if you encounter these individuals,” the release stated. “Both should be considered dangerous.”

Howard was set to appear Monday in Athens County Municipal Court on charges of felonious assault and tampering with evidence, according to court records. Chaney was set to appear for a preliminary hearing on an unrelated charge of escape, along with domestic violence and trespass.
