DeWine Not Alone In GOP Facing Pre-Existing Conditions Push
< < Back to dewine-not-alone-in-gop-facing-pre-existing-conditions-pushCOLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Democrat Richard Cordray is barraging his Republican opponent in Ohio’s governor’s race as someone who wants to end health insurance protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
Republican Attorney General Mike DeWine has reached back to a U.S. Senate debate from 1994 to defend himself. That’s despite DeWine joining a Republican lawsuit against the Affordable Care Act in 2011.
It’s a script that’s playing out in races for governor and U.S. Senate across the country. Democrats are trying to make inroads against Republican rivals who support certain popular elements of the federal health care law even after opposing the overall law in past elections.
DeWine says he repeatedly supported coverage for pre-existing conditions while in Congress. Cordray argues DeWine’s opposition to the newer law makes those votes irrelevant.
