< < Back to ohio-womens-basketball-despite-second-half-struggles-bobcats-escape-with-win-at-bowling-greenBOWLING GREEN, Ohio – On paper, it looked as if Ohio would have an easy game Saturday against Bowling Green – the last-place team in the MAC East. That was not the case as the game was decided in the final seconds.
After trailing by as many as 21 points, two free throws by Bowling Green’s Andrea Cecil cut the Ohio deficit to one-point with six seconds remaining. Erica Johnson and Ohio responded with two free-throws to make it a 82-79 game. The Falcons had a chance to send the game to overtime, but Sydney Lambert’s three-pointer was blocked by Dominique Doseck just before the final buzzer.
Even though it wasn’t the prettiest win, Ohio (17-1, 6-1 MAC) came away with an 82-79 win over Bowling Green (7-11, 0-7 MAC) Saturday afternoon.
CeCe Hooks and Johnson had 22 points each to lead the Bobcats. Hooks also led the team with seven assists, while Johnson had four assists and five steals. Doseck also reached double-figures with 15 points – all off of three-pointers. As a team, Ohio shot 41 percent from the field and 13-of-36 from three-point range.
The Bobcats looked like they were going to cruise to a win based on their first-half performance. They had a 48-32 lead at the half and were 19-of-38 on field-goals. On the defensive end, the Bobcats held Bowling Green to 38 percent. Doseck, Hooks and Johnson had 12 points each at the half.
It was a tale of two halves though, as Bowling Green controlled the momentum for most of the second half – outscoring the Bobcats 20-12 in the third quarter and 27-22 in the fourth quarter. Ohio shot only 21 percent from the field.
A win is a win.
The Bobcats return to the Convocation Center on Wednesday when they play MAC East rival Miami (OH) in “The Battle of the Bricks”. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
